The Punjab government has declared winter vacation till January 8 in all Anganwadi centers in view of the severe cold in the state. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that holiday has been declared in all Anganwadi centers of the state till January 8 to protect small children from cold. All Anganwadi centers in Punjab will open on January 9.

A warning has been issued for dense fog and cold wave in Punjab. According to the Meteorological Department, for the next five days, there will be dense fog in the morning and evening in most areas of Punjab. The cold wave will continue. The temperature is likely to drop further. SBS Nagar recorded a minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius and Bathinda 1.5 degrees Celsius. There is no chance of rain at the moment.

Earlier, amid the harsh winter, the state government had extended winter vacations in government, private and aided schools. Under this, schools will now remain closed till eight. On January 9, the schools will open at their scheduled time. As per the earlier order, the schools were closed till January 1.

Dense fog in Chandigarh

The Monday morning after the new year in Chandigarh also started with dense fog. On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 16.8 degrees Celsius, which was 4 notches below the average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.4 degree Celsius.

Due to the mist, vehicles were visible on the road only from a few feet away. The drivers were seen crawling instead of running on the roads. The vehicles plying on the roads were seen going towards the destination by lighting the head lights. The Meteorological Department has predicted dense fog at many places in Chandigarh during the next 48 hours. During this, cold wave will run in the city. People have been asked to take precautions. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of cloud cover in some parts of the city on January 6.
