The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has devised a new strategy to crack down on notorious gangsters running their network from jails in several states of northern India including Punjab. According to sources, the NIA has written a letter to the Union Home Ministry. In this, about 25 gangsters lodged in the jails of many states of North India including Punjab have been asked to be shifted to the jails of South India. It is expected that action can be taken in this direction in the coming days.

As soon as it was revealed in the NIA investigation that the gangsters lodged in the jails of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan have links with the terrorists sitting abroad, from that day itself the NIA started breaking this nexus. If sources are to be believed, even the helpers of gangsters in jails are becoming government employees, this has also come to the fore.

In some states, action has even been taken against senior police personnel. In such a situation, steps have now been taken in this direction. In this the gangsters were identified in the first phase. One of the reasons behind shifting these gangsters to the southern states is that the language barrier will become a barrier for these people there.

Others will think before taking any step there because it will not be easy for them to build a network there. In the coming days, the opinion of the states will be taken by the ministry. Although there is a provision in the National Security Act to shift the vicious criminals to other states.

Criminals have already been shifted
If there is an agreement to shift the gangsters to other states, then it will not be a new thing, earlier in 2019 also such a situation had arisen. When more than a dozen accused lodged in Kathua jail were sent to jails in Punjab and Haryana due to security reasons. Along with this, 26 prisoners lodged under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) were shifted from Srinagar to Agra Central Jail after the abrogation of Article 370. Similarly, in 2018, about 40 terrorists were sent from Srinagar to jails in other districts.

There is also preparation to build a high security jail in Punjab.
To crack down on gangsters and terrorists, the state and central government are already working on a plan to build a high security jail. According to sources, a meeting of the top officials of Punjab government and NIA has also been held regarding this matter. Hundred crore rupees will be spent on this jail. Most of the amount will be provided by the central government. All the accused will have separate cells in this jail, so that there is no coordination between the gangsters. There can be a common jail for the gangsters of Haryana and Punjab.
