No consensus is being reached between the MBBS students and the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) agitating against the MBBS bond policy in Haryana. The meeting between DMER Director Dr. Aditya Dahiya and a delegation of students from all the four government medical colleges, which lasted for about an hour, remained inconclusive.
However, the director noted the objection points of the students and assured that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Manohar Lal. Along with this, the students will soon be made to meet the Chief Minister. Despite all these assurances, Dr. Dahiya could not convince the students to call off the agitation.
After the meeting, the MBBS students declared that their agitation would continue. Due to the ongoing agitation in Rohtak PGI, DMER had called the agitating students for a meeting. Around 30 students from Rohtak PGI, Khanpur Medical College, Karnal and Mewat Medical College reached the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Sector 22, Panchkula on Monday morning.
Here he had a meeting with Director Dr. Aditya Dahiya. In the meeting, the students listed the flaws of the bond policy one by one. Also demanded that the bond policy should be amended. The Director spoke to the students point wise and assured that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Manohar Lal.
Dr. Dahiya persuaded the students to call off the agitation, but the students remained adamant on demanding a written assurance instead of an oral one. It is noteworthy that since the time of MBBS counselling, the students have been opposing the bond policy. The students of PGI Rohtak are sitting on dharna since 1st November.
The Director has assured that he will soon arrange a meeting with the Chief Minister. As of now, we do not have anything in writing nor have we come across any amendment in the policy so far. Bond should be of service not financial
MBBS students demand that instead of making financial bonds, the government should make service bonds. The bond should be between the government and the MBBS students, not a bank. The time period of the bond should be one year instead of 7 and if someone breaks the bond in between, then the amount for him should be Rs 5 lakh. Along with this, a job should be ensured in the next two months after completing the degree.
The Chief Minister has already cleared the situation
Chief Minister Manohar Lal has already clarified the position regarding the bond policy. He says that the bond policy is not wrong. The government will repay the loans of students who fulfill the conditions of the bond, while those who do not fulfill the bond will have to repay the loan. In Rohtak, the students have met the Chief Minister once before, but there also the CM gave a clear indication that there will be no change in the policy. Now in the second meeting, whether the government will back down or the students, it will be decided after the meeting.
