The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested a range officer of his own department for accepting bribes, a day after beginning the ‘Awareness Week’ against corruption across Punjab on Monday. It is noteworthy that on Monday all the officers and employees of the Bureau were administered an oath to discharge their responsibility honestly.

The Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested Inspector Amolak Singh, posted at his range office Amritsar, for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. Bureau spokesperson said that the accused Vigilance Inspector has been arrested on the complaint of Prabhmesh Mohan resident of New Mahindra Colony, Amritsar.

The complainant had sent a complaint online, including a video clip, alleging that he and his wife, who are employees of the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar, were arrested by the Bureau in a corruption case in 2021. The court has granted him bail in that case. The complainant alleged that Amolak Singh, being the investigating officer of the case, was demanding a bribe of Rs 5000 from him.

The complainant recorded the conversation with him on his phone as evidence and handed it over to the Vigilance. After examining the facts and evidence of the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau arrested the said inspector for taking bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant. In this regard, a case has been registered against the accused in Vigilance Flying Squad-1 Punjab, Police Station SAS Nagar.
