Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib can at any time leave the post of Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht. There is a buzz in the SGPC corridor that some big leaders of Akali Dal are not satisfied with their services being rendered as the caretaker Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Senior Akali sources say that the Akali Dal is finding it difficult to answer to its supporters and the people of Punjab due to his statements on Panth issues.

The Jathedar had a closed-door meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on February 13, 2022, before the last assembly elections. The Jathedar had drawn the attention of the Union Home Minister to the Sikh issues. Some SAD leaders did not like his meeting directly with Amit Shah bypassing the Akali Dal.

Apart from this, the closed meetings of Giani Harpreet Singh with the then Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the current Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann were also not digested by the leaders. Now, not giving time to meet SGPC office-bearers and Akali Dal leaders on behalf of the central government is also troubling them. Angered by this, the leader Giani is giving a report against Harpreet Singh to the leadership.

Acting Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht was made in 2018
It is noteworthy that the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee appointed Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in place of Giani Gurmukh Singh, the then Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, on April 21, 2017. Then on 22 October 2018, after the resignation of the then Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Gurbachan Singh, the Shiromani Committee handed over additional responsibility of Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to Giani Harpreet Singh. Close sources now say that Giani Harpreet Singh is contemplating to give up the additional responsibility of Jathedar of Akal Dal.
