Chandigarh. The activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad have started a hunger strike on Tuesday for the demands of the students of Panjab University. During this, 23 members of ABVP are sitting on an indefinite hunger strike. The hunger strike has been started on behalf of the members of the student union for 16 demands. A week ago, a memorandum was submitted to the university administration by demonstrating on behalf of the organization.
PU ABVP unit president Amit Poonia and unit minister Shaurya Mehra said that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has been fighting for 16 demands of student interest in Panjab University for a long time. The 16 demands include strengthening of security arrangements in South Campus, providing basic facilities like dispensary, stationery and tuck shop etc. in South Campus, increasing the facility of e-rickshaw in the campus and resumption of shuttle bus services, an in-house library for research scholars. Providing separate sections, initiating the process of setting up new hostels in the campus.
Apart from this, improving the quality of food in hostels and display of approved menu rates in hostels and canteens, making the campus socially sensitive and structurally accessible for students with disabilities, providing state-of-the-art materials to students and researchers from various departments of science. To start allotment process of hostel for girls in GH-11 without any delay.
At the same time, ensuring canteen facility in BAMS block, providing WiFi facility for students, withdrawing fee hike in PU and adding the provision of fee payment in installments, filling up vacant posts of assistant professors, PU PhD admission Providing fellowships to all the scholars enrolled in the University, starting the Coffee House of the Student Center, increasing the daily allowance of the players.
