No garbage will be taken out from Chandigarh Municipal Corporation office. All types of waste will be disposed off inside the premises. Sewer water will be treated and used as tertiary water. Pits will be made for horticulture waste and compost will be prepared and put in the plants. Work on this plan has been started. The great thing about this plan is that the cost is negligible. Officials claim that the municipal corporation will be the first government building in North India to do so.
Municipal Commissioner Anandita Mitra said that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, all the big buildings and societies should dispose the garbage on the spot. For this it is necessary to build a model. Corporation office will become a model in this direction. When we go to communicate among the people, we can proudly say that we have taken the initiative, now it is your turn. For this, responsibility is being given to different people so that the plan can be completed as soon as possible. In this, machines will be installed for disposal of all types of waste. After the waste is disposed off, the waste generated from it will also be used.
Women will make paper messy artifacts from paper waste
The commissioner said that the maximum amount of waste in the municipal corporation is of paper. For this, the paper will be cut finely by putting a machine. After that it will be sent to the women of Self Help Groups who will make paper messy artefacts by making its pulp. Due to this, on the one hand the waste will be recycled and on the other hand the medium of employment of women will increase.
Canteen waste will be disposed of by machine
There is a canteen on the fifth floor of the municipal office. The waste (such as food, vegetables and fruits) generated from here will be disposed of by a machine. For this the machine is coming under pilot scheme. It won’t even smell. The e-waste will be given to a company registered by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Board, as it cannot be disposed of on the spot. The company will recycle the e-waste. For hazardous and sanitary waste, the corporation has already tied up with a company which disposes of the waste as per norms.
290 numbers of waste management in cleanliness campaign
Cities have to get 290 numbers under the Swachh Bharat Mission for waste management. In this, the waste generated from the events, the waste generated from the buildings, how the waste from the wards is disposed of. Numbers are also added to how much plastic is being used. A few days ago, the corporation had put up red hoardings on the doors of the society for not disposing of garbage on the spot in the south sectors. Later people had asked for a few days, after which the hoarding was removed.
We will present ourselves as a model, only then will we be able to convince people. For this purpose, a target has been set to not remove any kind of garbage from the Municipal Corporation building. It will be completed soon. -Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation
