Politics Heats Up On Syl Issue In Haryana – CGCHOTBOX

The Punjab government has observed silence after the Supreme Court order in the SYL case. Usually, as soon as SYL is mentioned, some minister of the Punjab government stands up in the interest of not giving Punjab water to Haryana, but now no statement has come from the Punjab government. The reason is clear that both Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will be in Hisar on Tuesday. In such a situation, the advocacy of the Punjab government not to provide water can become an issue in Haryana.

In fact, this time the Aam Aadmi Party is trying to find the political base of AAP in Haryana from Adampur. SYL water is such an issue between the two states, on which speaking in the interest of Punjab can be heavy and speaking against Haryana can also do harm. The Punjab government may not give any reaction in this matter, but these questions will be asked from Kejriwal in Hisar today.

On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal and former CM Hooda have also jumped into this battle. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that SYL is the right of the people of Haryana and they will take it. This water is very important for Haryana. On one hand we are not getting this water while on the other hand Delhi is demanding more water from us. The Chief Minister said that now it is necessary to fix a time line in this matter.

Water is going to Pakistan: Manohar Lal

The Chief Minister said that due to non-construction of this canal, surplus water of Ravi, Sutlej and Beas goes to Pakistan without channel. As per the decision taken in the meeting of Union Jal Shakti Minister on August 18, 2020 with the Chief Ministers of both the states on the direction of Supreme Court to resolve the SYL issue, Punjab is not taking further action.

Supreme Court’s decision final: Hooda
Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said that the decision of the Supreme Court has come in favor of Haryana. Now it has to be complied with by the Central Government and the Punjab Government. Haryana government has to make efforts for this. We had earlier met the Chief Minister of Haryana regarding the issue of SYL. He also met the President who was earlier. The Chief Minister had said that we will meet the Prime Minister regarding this. The Chief Minister did not take time, it was his responsibility. The final decision of the Supreme Court has come. There is no point in their meeting now.

So far this has been the stand of the Punjab governments
In the past, Punjab had told the Supreme Court that it cannot supply water to other states ignoring the interests of its farmers. Punjab had also said that the matter should not be heard by the Supreme Court but should be heard by the Tribunal. Punjab says that it has first right on the water of Sutlej, Beas river. Then someone else’s number comes. Punjab had said that we want to follow the court order but cannot do so by ignoring our farmers. Our farmers should die of hunger and why should we give water from river Sutlej and Beas to anyone else.
